Allow yourself to step into a new universe, to explore and experience a different lifestyle and to enrich your slow travelled journey with unforgettable moments.
There are plenty of countries to choose from in South East Europe and unlimited experiences to create, no matter when or where you choose to go.
Romania is one underrepresented hidden gem. In the same time, it has all the needed elements to be considered a perfect slow travel destination: with more than 48% of the population living in captivating rural communities, an impressive number of spectacular natural reservations, abundant wildlife, delicious food and friendly people.
Authenticity and nature are the words that could best capture the essence of this surprising country. It has a rich history, it represents a paradox for some, but it is at the top of the list for others. But what could a slow traveller experience in Romania?
#countryside
Stepping into the Romanian countryside is an experience itself, but actually immersing into the village life is something that you won’t regret! You have plenty of places to choose for, but to make the best out of this I would reccommend to seek for a pristine village hidden between the mountains. Perhaps the first thing that will strike you is going to be the rithm. Not the architecture, the curiosity and kindness of the people, the perfect cohabitation with the natural environment or the most instagrammable haystacks. But the rithm, as time has its own character here.

#nature
Romania might be famous for Dracula and, since recently, for Wednesday’s Nevermore Academy, but the locals are also the proud guardians of the highest population of European brown bears, some of the lasts virgin forests of Europe, the second largest delta of the continent, spectacular mud volcanoes, underground salt mines, numerous endemic plants and wild flowers and plenty of 2000+ m high mountain peaks.
All you have to do is to first imagine the kind of outdoor adventure you want to experience and then find the proper time to embrace it!
#family getaways
Slow travelling in Romania can be an amazing gift for a family. Curated experiences by locals, following your own needs and expectations, this kind of exploring a destination might surprise you with a long lost family connection. Not to mention that here and there you’ll be forced to leave the phone away, as the magic of the winding trees and the chirps of birds might just swipe the network away…
Imagine the fun of wondering through the meadows and admiring the wild flowers from a horse-pulled carriage. Or maybe the enthusiasm of the kids when entering in one of the numerous caves of Romania. Or the thrill of milking a cow or of painting an egg with traditional motifs. The more experiences, the more meaningful moments lived together.

Whether you choose to experience rural life as maybe your grandparents knew it, hike or bike in the beautiful Carpathians, do bird watching in the Danube Delta or explore the culture of this destination, always keep in mind that “We don’t remember days. We remember moments.”
What we leave behind
There is a deep sense of gratitude when you acknowledge that the way you act, the way you live, the way you travel positively impacts other people’s lives. It is the kindness of your thoughts and the simplicity of your gestures that counts.
We travel in search of meaning and joy and we leave behind a legacy of consciousness, unspoilt nature and the memory of beautiful new connections.
