Slow travel is a state of mind. It brings you back to the initial reasons for travelling and immerses you in the destination you are visiting. It is a long-expected response to over-tourism, as slow travellers will always prefer exploring off-the-beaten paths and less-visited destinations.
Why should you slow down?
For some, it might come as a response to an overwhelming lifestyle, for others maybe as a solution to depression or burnout. For most, I hope it represents a sustainable alternative to racing around to see and do as much as you can in a short amount of time.
It is certain that slow travel – whatever the reasons are for practising it – represents a sustainable means of travelling and allows you to get a closer contact with the local communities and a deeper feeling of the atmosphere of the places you travel through.

By undertaking the slow travel mindset, you get the chance to start observing the little details that can make a huge difference in one’s journey. It might be the appetizing smell of a delicious home-cooked meal, coming from a balcony in one of the tranquil seaside towns that you pass by bike. Or the deepest and kindest look in a shepherd’s eyes, that you quietly pass by while hiking the meadows and he patiently waits for the sunset. Maybe the laughter of the kids jumping in the puddles on the street, after that tonic summer rain invigorated the village.
